The Aroostook County Snowdogs will have three teams participating in this year’s Special Olympics state basketball tournament, taking place Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham.

Penobscot/Piscataquis/Hancock Area Special Olympics will be holding a benefit 5K road race on Sunday, Oct.11, 2015 at 10 .m. at the Orono/Old Town YMCA in Old Town. The race is a fundraiser to support the programs put on throughout the year for Area Special Olympics athletes.

The 27th annual Cloukey’s Charity Challenge Golf Tournament, held June 18 and 19, 2015, was another huge success. The unique format includes four separate nine-hole scrambles with prizes awarded after the event. All money raised from the event goes to Aroostook County Special Olympics.
Approximately 250 athletes, representing more than 30 schools and organizations, converged at the Gehrig Johnson Athletic Complex at Presque Isle Middle School May 15 for the 39th annual Aroostook County Special Olympics Spring Games.
The Snowdogs are back from another memorable trip to the Special Olympics state basketball tournament.
The Blue team won the Silver medal in Div. I and the White team won the bronze medal in Div. 2. Coach Brian Hamel said there was some great and very stiff competition this year, with three more teams added to the field of competitors.
Caribou High School recently hosted the 2007 Spring Special Olympics. Teams from all over the county traveled to the Viking track and field to compete in chilly and damp conditions. Though the weather may not have been cooperating, the athletes did not let that dull their spirit, as they gave their all throughout the day’s activities.
For local emergency personnel and volunteers, it’s a love of helping others that drew them to carry the torch for Special Olympics on June 7.
