On March 14 a cat named Patches was brought into the salon. Patches had been living under a porch in the bitter winter cold and snow. The lady that brought Patches in was very concerned because Patches was about ready to deliver a litter of kittens. She knew that if Patches had her babies under her porch that it was way too cold and that none of them would survive.

HOULTON, Maine — The Ark Animal Sanctuary in Houlton will receive an emergency grant of $2,500 from The Humane Society of the United States. The grant will assist in rebuilding efforts after a March 12 fire killed 16 cats and destroyed the sanctuary’s new building.
Out of the ashes, into the light
It has been two weeks since the tragic fire at The Ark Animal Sanctuary that left us all devastated. We still the mourn the 16 animals that were lost and will continue to do so. They will carry a special place in our hearts forever. While we know we cannot replace everything that was lost, we can move forward “Out of the ashes, into the light.”
