The tail has been wagging the dog in the U.S. for a long time now, at least the last six years.
As I write this column inflation is at an all-time high, prices soaring skyward, product shortages common, people flinch as they fill their cars and we’re all making nips and tucks to our budgets.
I’ve had the good fortune to have owned three remarkable dogs in my lifetime, and I adopted them all from the Houlton Humane Society.
In 1998 I brought home a German Shepherd/Collie mix and named her Adventure.
Day 15 of June this year was gorgeous. Sunshine, mild temperatures and a zephyr breeze. A morning meeting with positive vibes produced an appetite for a small repast. It was time for lunch. A short walk and into the doors of a sandwich shop, which has seen 40 years of feeding a hunger.

For most of my adult life I’ve enjoyed walking, both for exercise and pleasure. Now that I’m retired — all of two weeks now — I find myself taking early morning strolls in the great outdoors around 6 a.m.
Summer is well underway, as is potato season in Aroostook County. Farming is a critical part of Maine’s character and economy.

Back in 2011 the average price of gas in Maine was $2.65 per gallon. At that same time the minimum wage was $7.25 per hour. Today the average price of gas in Maine is about $5 per gallon and the minimum wage is $12.75 per hour.

In response to Mr. Kierstead regarding our governor buying votes with the $850 [stimulus checks], there were stimulus checks sent in April 2020 for $1,200 and December 2020 for $600 when Trump was president.
Summer is now officially here and visitors and residents alike are enjoying the beautiful outdoor sites and parks we have to offer here in Presque Isle.
The city and state boast several parks around the community with Aroostook State Park, Maine’s first state park; and the city’s Peace Park, Veterans’ Park, Riverside Park and Mantle Lake Park.
