Tips on finding female ancestors

Finding the maiden name of a female ancestor can be a challenge. Men’s names were recorded in town vital records but the wife was usually listed by her given name only.

Disappearing work ethic

To the editor:
As per the article “Work ethic needs polishing” [Walkabout Aroostook by Paula Brewer, Sept. 4] — We used to have a work ethic. Now it is replaced by a very strong sense of entitlement.

What has happened to mankind?

To the editor:
On Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019, at 1 p.m., my granddaughter, Hadley, who is a brain cancer survivor, was crossing Academy Street from Canterbury Street to go cat-sit a neighbor’s cat. She lost her balance in the middle of Academy Street because of the ruts in the road. Hadley fell face-first with injuries to her face, knees and arms.

How recycling is working in Presque Isle

The Presque Isle Landfill and Tri-Community Landfill merged into a new entity known as Aroostook Waste Solutions (AWS) at the beginning of 2019.  The merger resulted in a drop-off recycling program that is now done primarily with the use of brightly colored igloos.
