Spring has finally arrived in the Star City. As many prepare for enjoying activities outdoors, including picking fiddleheads, going fishing or enjoying hikes at Mantle Lake Park, have you thought about doing your part for Presque Isle’s Kennedy Brook?
I was twelve when my family moved into the lodge on the western shore of Umsaskis Lake. The lodge set up on a high bank overlooking the lake. My siblings and I would spend the next five summers exploring the outdoors there.
Snowstorms which are remembered down through the generations are sometimes described as having been the heaviest in the memory of “the oldest living inhabitant.” I’ve always liked that line, and it was actually used a couple of Saturdays ago, on, of all days, the 9th day of May.
We are not out of the woods yet, but we can see some light. Still, as we continue to navigate this unusual time, I wanted to share some updates and resources that may be helpful.
Society must capitalize on the experience and judgment, gained through years of living, by this large segment of our population. Not to do so would be to miss out on a wealth of resources.

With the increased frequency and severity of devastating storms across the country each year, the importance of building safety has become a personal topic whilst building codes continue to protect and save lives.
