Jackson speaks truth to power

To the editor:

Troy Jackson of Allagash has been a loyal advocate of working families in District 1. He understands that in northern Maine the forestry economy and farming industries are the foundation of our natural resource economy and key to the success of related businesses.

Troy showed leadership and courage in supporting the interests of Maine loggers who were losing their livelihoods as companies replaced them with cheap Canadian labor at wages that would bankrupt an American worker. He has been a staunch supporter of sustainable agriculture. He worked with the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association for the passage of LD 718, “An Act To Protect Maine Food Consumers’ Right to Know about Genetically Engineered Food”.

City should own parking lots

To the editor:

For the past couple of years, in order to save tax dollars, the Caribou City Council has been trying to determine whether or not to keep or sell the city-owned parking lots. Several of the underutilized lots have been sold or leased, and now the question has come up as to what to do with the North and South Mall lots. The Council is pretty much split down the middle on this issue, and has decided to put the question to the voters on the November ballot.

Why no Candidate Forums?

To the editor:

Voters need accurate information to be able to make a decision about who to vote for. The best way for voters to understand a candidate’s values and where they stand on issues is to hear directly from the candidate. As Chair of the Aroostook County Democratic Committee, I was frustrated in 2012 when planned candidate forums were cancelled because Republican candidates refused to participate in them.

Please participate in survey

To the editor:

Aroostook County Action Program (ACAP) is an area leader in providing a wide range of services to citizens across Aroostook County. To help ensure that the services they deliver are directed to the areas of highest need, ACAP is conducting a comprehensive community assessment. Aroostook County residents, like yourself, can help influence their planning efforts for the agency as well as help to determine which regional needs receive the most attention.

Where does Poliquin stand?

To the editor:
Bruce Poliquin is the only one of Maine’s four representatives and senators who has yet to denounce the vulgar and unchristian views of Donald Trump.

Imposters giving clowns a bad name

Imposters giving clowns a bad name

To the editor:
What if I told you the latest hot topic has everyone scared of the wrong thing? Everyone needs to stop confusing people in terrible costumes for clowns. I know clowns. I am a clown, or as we spell it in The County, “klown.”
