On March 20th, two dozen Aroostook County citizens attended public hearings in Augusta speaking against the third attempt to weaken Maine’s metal mining laws.
I oppose Open Pit Metallic Mining in Maine, I oppose LD395, I support LD253 and LD254 and here’s why.
Since 2012, I have spent months researching metal mining each time I prepare to testify at legislative hearings, four times total.
On March 20, 2017, more than two dozen Aroostook County residents made the trek to Augusta to testify before a day-long hearing of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee in opposition to the administration-sponsored weakened rules for metal mining, the third attempt in three years.

As the owners of Took a Leap Farm, my husband and are known for taking big leaps — and in early 2016, we took one of our biggest with the purchase of The Vault Restaurant in downtown Houlton. This leap was enabled by the Affordable Care Act, through which we have been able to receive the medical care and prescription medication we require for our pre-existing conditions. Without the security afforded by this program, I would not have been able to leave my corporate job to pursue the entrepreneurial path of a small business owner.
