Giving thanks for local expertise, advice

To the Editor,
I’m not a local resident of Aroostook County, or even the state of Maine, yet, but I have had a long time favorable fascination with this great Aroostook area, enough so, that I have purchased past and present, several small acreage home/vacation lots in the southern part of The County needing boundary surveys.

A lot of memories in that fish

Just 88 years ago, on May 30, 1929, my mother, Ina Porter, caught an 11-pound landlocked salmon, 31 inches long, setting a record for the largest one taken from Nickerson Lake.

Governor should take a hike

To the Editor;
I am very concerned and perplexed about Governor LePage trying to dismantle the Katahdin Woods and Waters Monument especially since it is already bringing increased travel to the economically battered region.

Show me the evidence

The Maine Legislative Committee on Environment and Natural Resources has voted “Ought to pass” on LD 820, the bill supported by the environmental community that bans open-pit mining and wet-waste management but will allow contamination of groundwater in restricted areas of underground or “shaft” mining.
