Charter makes deadline for councilors to pay taxes clear

To the editor:
When the charter commission put together a new charter in 2011, one of the new rules was the stipulation that a councilor’s property taxes had to be paid on or before Dec. 31 of the previous year.

What legacy are we leaving?

To the Editor:
My father taught us to “Always leave a place better than you found it.” As I write this the sky overhead is a solid gray. A local weatherman says this is due to the smoke from countless fires burning out of control in several western states.

Collins vs. Gideon

To the editor:
Even if I didn’t know what kind of person Sara Gideon is, I would still vote for Susan Collins. Collins has a long tenure of hard work reaching across the aisle to produce legislation that has helped both Maine businesses and Maine people.

Supporting those who support charter

To the editor:
In 1967, when Caribou transitioned from a town to a city, a new charter was established. Then in 2011, a group of people were elected to serve on a charter commission to begin the process of updating it.

Councilor should see petition

To the editor:
In November of 2019, people of Caribou voted Doug Morrell to the [Caribou City] Council with the understanding that he was going to lower our taxes with the help of other councilors and nobody losing jobs or losing any service in the city.

Collins is working for rural hospitals

To the editor:
Rural hospitals in Maine have faced extraordinary financial pressures throughout the pandemic. Congress acted swiftly at the start of the pandemic to offer support, but some of the terms of the loans and emergency funding it has extended to hospitals must be updated if they are going to weather this storm.
