My son and I were sitting in The Irish [Setter] Pub, right next to where the car crashed into it last week. Glass shards spewed forth — beside us, never landing upon us.

Most of us were taught the importance of saving for the future, but if there is a barrier to saving then we probably won’t do it.

New EMS group making progress

To the editor:
Sometime after the first week of January 2021, 13 area towns received bills for their Houlton Ambulance Service contracts, without any prior warning, that are four times what the towns had budgeted. In other words, the bills went from $16.74 per capita to $74 per capita.

Iraq war and others

To the editor: 
Eighteen years ago, on March 19, 2003, the United States invaded Iraq.  Immediately thereafter [as well as before], anti-war protests began throughout Maine.  The protest in Presque Isle has been continuous, in all weathers, through all these years.

To the editor:
Merriam-Webster defines a fetish as “…an object of irrational reverence or obsessive devotion.” 
It seems to me that many people fetish over guns.

Questioning Van Buren’s police choice

To the editor:
 Van Buren closed the police station in December. Why? They say it’s because they cannot find anyone to hire. A nation with 7 percent unemployment cannot find an officer to employ?
