Please speak up

To the editor: This is the first time I have ever felt passionate enough on an issue to write a letter to the editor, but on  Saturday, March 25, I attended a Speak Up For Life meeting in Presque Isle and learned of legislation regarding the abortion issue here in Maine.

Vote no on abortion bill

To the editor: At one time people believed that abortion was safe and it was legal. It’s still legal in early pregnancy in Maine.  But I understand that now there are some bills being written to expand abortion in Maine and I think the people need to be informed what their policy makers are doing.

Anti-war demonstrations

To the editor:
Twenty full years ago, on March 19, 2003, the United States invaded Iraq. Immediately thereafter [as well as before], anti war protests began throughout Maine. Our protest in Presque Isle has been continuous since then, in all weathers, through all these years. And we are tired.

Although our talented city staff and inventive local businesspeople are as capable as anyone at planning an entertaining schedule of events for citizens of all ages, even these designers of delight had no control of the glorious weather that we were blessed to receive for the recent Caribou SnowBowl weekend.

Glad to receive heating help

To the editor:
I was very happy to receive the [state relief payment of] $450, or $900 for my wife and I. It is greatly appreciated and will certainly help with our cost of heating this winter.
