One of the Phair starch factories included in the purchase made by R. L. Pitcher was taken down carefully, and the whole plant was then transported to the potato growing section of Michigan, where it was assembled and set at work manufacturing starch.

Starts new business — Mr. Charles Huggard, for several years employed at the B. & A. and paint shops in this town, has resigned his position to go into business for himself.
County Buildings on Canvas – – Aroostooks’ Board of Commissioners were presented with five paintings of county buildings prior to the meeting August 3 in Caribou. The paintings were commissioned to Fort Fairfield artist Mark Edgecomb for $850 as part of the Caribou Courthouse Renovations Project. They will hang in the conference room of the Caribou Courthouse. Mr. George Akeley presented the Star-Herald Editor with a box of very handsome Cobbler potatoes, grown by J. J. Ross & Son, Seaford, Del., from seed produced on Mr. Akeley’s seed farm near Presque Isle Village.

New Book — A new book by Mrs. Kidney describes living in Allagash. Mrs. Kidney and her husband, Milford, who had lived in Houlton from 1938 to 1941, have been living in a one-room camp in the Allagash Region for 12 years, spring, summer and fall. The many experiences of living in such a remote place have been recorded in her new book, ‘Away From it All.’
Silver wedding anniversary — Mr. and Mrs. Stuart L. Lenentine were honored on their 25th wedding anniversary at their home with an open house given by their daughter, Mrs. Sandra Roy. The couple was married by the Rev. H.L. Kennedy at Houlton on July 17, 1944. They have resided in Monticello and have four children.
