New store — B. E. Anderson, propr. of the Houlton Shoe Hospital, opened his new shoe store in the Fox Bros. store and his first day’s business was a most satisfactory one.
Poles are being hauled to extend the telephone line on Washburn Street as far as the Johnson Brothers’ slaughterhouse.

Canning industry — George O. Goodwin of Woodland was in town Wednesday. Mr. Goodwin is proprietor of the Goodwin Pea Canning Factory, the only one in Aroostook, and an industry that is rapidly growing in the volume of business each year.

Graves, Trafton continue serving — At a meeting of the City Council, Dr. Richard A. Graves was re-elected chairman of the Council for the third consecutive term.

Houlton daily makes appearance — The first regular edition of the Aroostook Daily News made its appearance on Monday and is the first daily paper to be published in Aroostook County.

New quarters — B.E. Anderson, who has been conducting a retail shoe business as well as a repairing department, has leased the Fox store.

Ice — Large numbers of teams are now busy hauling ice from the Aroostook River and Collins Pond.

Best Christmas present — Ernest Leighton, who for the past three years has been employed at Perks Bros.’ drug store, received as his best Christmas present a certificate from the State Board of Pharmacy making him a registered pharmacist for the State of Maine.
