Carleton Whittaker received promotion — Mr. and Mrs. Bert Whittaker of this city received word that their son, Second Lt. Carleton L. Whittaker, was promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant.

115 Years Ago – March 1,  1905
Potatoes — Mr. D. Messervey of Limestone was in Caribou Wednesday. He considers himself one of the fortunate ones this year as he sold all of his potatoes for 90 cents a barrel.

Former PI man promoted — Maurice J. Arsenault, deputy collector, was put in charge of a Major Zone office of the Internal Revenue Service which opened at 131 Elm Street in Biddeford, Fe. 15, for the convenience of the taxpayers residing in Biddeford, Saco and the rest of York County.

115 Years Ago – Feb. 22,  1905
Windows — The windows of the Universalist Church have arrived and been placed in position. The new organ also arrived, and workmen are busy setting it up. Services, which have been held for some time in the Grange Hall, will be held at the church again next Sunday.

Cast member in college production — Nancy Kent, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Kent of Presque Isle, and a sophomore at Beaver College, was selected as a member of the cast of “Inside Information” by Alice MacMillan, which was produced at the college on Feb. 22.

Arthur O. Putnam was elected president of the Aroostook County War Chest at the annual meeting held in Presque Isle. He succeeded Dr. Clyde I. Swett of Island Falls who had served as head of the organization for the previous two years.

Houlton area From our Files – Week of February 12, 2020

The Putnam-Ervin Company has been organized at Houlton, to conduct a general real estate business with a capital stock of $60,000, all of which is common stock; nothing paid in; par value, $100; shares subscribed, 600; directors, Lee W. Irvin, (president), Arthur O. Putnam, (treasurer), Fred L. Putnam, Houlton. This cooperation was organized for the purpose of conducting the interests of the Frisbie Block, so called, which the above gentlemen purchased last week.

William Theriault caused quite a stir of interest Wednesday when he was seen on Sweden Street with four pigs. He has them trained really well. He is very fond of his pigs and has named them. They all respond to their names when called.
