Caribou area From our Files – Week of March 25, 2020

In the fastest and roughest game yet played at Caribou this season, the Webbermen of Caribou High defeated the high flying Wildcats of Presque Isle 42-49 last Friday night. It was the first time Caribou beat Presque Isle since 1929, when Caribou won 31-14.

Weaver promoted — Ralph O. Weaver, Jr., son of Mrs. Arline L. Weaver of Presque Isle, was promoted to first lieutenant at Camp Anza, Calif., where he was serving with the Transportation Corps.

     Main Street block sold — The second important transfer that has taken place in the last few days was Monday when T. V. Holdaway and Ray L. Young purchased from John A. Tenney the McLeod store, so called, and this too is a valuable piece of property.

75 Years Ago –  March 15, 1945
Gold medal — Warren P. Wilson, well known insurance man of Mars Hill, who represented the Continental Insurance Company, a member company of the America Fire Insurance & Indemnity Group, was presented with the company’s gold medal in token of more than 25 years representation.

Paul Tardie III of Washburn, a senior at Washburn District High School, has been selected to receive the 2020 Principal’s Award, Principal Lawrence Worcester announced recently.

     Prize winners — L. H. Powers who with Mrs. Powers were in attendance at the Boston Dog Show, returning home last week having captured four first prizes and three seconds, of which Mr. and Mrs. powers might well be proud.
