100 Years Ago – June 9, 1920
     Attending a meeting — Mr. and Mrs Chas. H. Fogg returned Friday from Poland Springs, where Mr. Fogg attended a meeting of the Directors of the Maine Automobile Association, who with their wives were guests of Hiram Ricker, president of the association.

115 Years Ago – May 31,  1905
Hail Storm — This part of the County received a sudden baptism of hail Monday morning a little after seven. The hailstones, some as large as walnuts came down with considerable force and covered the ground.

Annual Convention Aroostook WCTU — The 65th Annual Convention of the Aroostook County Woman’s Christian Temperance Union was held at the Methodist Church in Presque Isle May 23, with the president, Mrs. Gladys Sweet of Houlton, presiding.

100 Years Ago – June 2, 1920
     Gone to Boston — H. G. Dibblee left Monday evening for Boston where he will join a party of Cole agents for a trip to the factory in Indianapolis, where he will get his allotment of Cole cars for delivery.

Presque Isle area From our Files – Week of May 20, 2020

75 Years Ago –  May 24, 1945
Sgt. Clyde Dumas won Purple Heart — The Purple Heart was awarded to Sgt. Clyde Dumas, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dumas of Presque Isle, who was wounded Mach 29 in the 9th Armored Division in Germany. He returned to duty after a period of time.

     Rotary discussion — At the regular meeting of the Rotary club on Friday evening B.B. McIntyre of the Houlton Electric Co. gave an illustrated talk on the growth and development of electricity, which was most interesting.

75 Years Ago –  May 17, 1945
Frank Smith named head of Chamber of Commerce — At the meeting of the directors of the Presque Isle Chamber of Commerce, Frank A. Smith was elected president. Other officers named were: Harold Bryant, vice president, and Ted Thompson, treasurer.

100 Years Ago – May 19, 1920
     Leaving for convention — Mrs. Cora Putnam will leave Wednesday for Boston where she will attend the Red Cross convention. On her return she will stop at Portland where she is a delegate to the Grand Chapter O.E.S., which convenes next week.
