75 Years Ago –  July 19, 1945
Jamieson structure to fall — The demolition of the old Jamieson building on State Street had started. The tearing down of the new building, which was handled by N. W. Downing and Son Co., was to make way for the construction of a modern theatre.

100 Years Ago – July 21, 1920
     Training — Robert Yetton, whose compensation for vocational training has been approved, has started in on his work having chosen telephone work as his line. New switch boards are being installed in parts of the county and he is out learning, while experienced men are teaching him the ins and outs of this work.

     Leased a room — Mr. Bugbee who conducts a restaurant in the Thibadeau Block has leased the connecting room in rear of his present location and will open it up in connection with his lunch counter and will use the new part for ladies.

75 Years Ago –  July 12, 1945
Abbott appointed — David K. Abbott of Presque Isle was appointed executive secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, which was announced by President Frank A. Smith. Abbott, a graduate of the University of Maine, had been affiliated with the Federal Land Bank and the Presque Isle Production Credit Association.

New industry — A new industry has been in operation the past two weeks at King’s Grove, Mars Hill, it being the distillation and manufacture of cedar oil from cedar boughs.

75 Years Ago –  July 5, 1945
Commander promoted — Lieutenant Colonel Howard H. Maxwell, commanding officer of the Presque Isle Army Air Field, was notified of his promotion to full colonel. Col. Maxwell arrived in Presque Isle October 1944, and assumed command of the Presque Isle field, which was a unit of the North Atlantic Division, Air Transport Command.

     New prices — Beginning July 5 the motion picture houses advanced their admission prices, being the last line of business throughout the country to raise their prices to meet the advancing costs of everything that goes into the making of a Motion picture.

75 Years Ago –  June 28, 1945
Sgt. James Powers awarded Bronze Star — Sgt. James N. Powers, of RED No. 2, son of Mr. Patrick Powers of Presque Isle, and a member of the 802nd MP Co., was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in connection with military operations against an armed enemy during the period, June 6, 1944, to May 9, 1945, in France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany and Czechoslovakia.
