75 Years Ago –  Nov. 15, 1945
Boy Scouts hold second annual meeting — The second annual meeting of Central District, Katahdin Area Council, Boy Scouts of America was held at the Northeastland Hotel in Presque Isle. A roast chicken dinner preceded the meeting and was served in the Banquet Hall. Reverend Nelson Canfield of Fort Fairfield presided as chairman.

100 Years Ago – Nov.  18, 1920
  Unique recital given at high school auditorium pleases a large audience – – The recital given last Thursday Evening under the direction of the Astle Music Co. by a group of Edison Artists drew one of the largest audiences ever seen in the building.

Caribou area From our Files – Week of November 2, 2020

100 Years Ago – Nov.  11, 1920
Fast horse — Millie Irwin, owned by George Osbourne of Limestone, is the fattest trotter now owned in Maine, with her record of 2:05 sweeping the board as far as the Pine Tree State is concerned. This horse is also the eighth trotter in the world this season. Her earnings so far are $7,780.

Houlton area From our Files – Week of November 2, 2020

100 Years Ago – Nov. 10, 1920
     Honored — A special service was given in honor of the Boy Scout troop of the church. The service was in commemoration of a heroic deed at Grand Lake. Last summer while the Boy Scouts were camping, Harry Manuel rescued the life of a drowning man.

75 Years Ago –  Nov. 8, 1945
December potato prices steady — The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that support prices on 1945 late-crop Irish potatoes did not increase for the remainder of the marketing season ending June 1946, over the support prices set for the month of December.

Presque Isle area From our Files – Week of October 20, 2020

75 Years Ago –  Oct. 25, 1945
Mapleton man enrolled at University in England — Sergeant Clifford H. Keirstead, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar R. Keirstead of Mapleton, and a former student of both the Universities of Maine and Maryland, enrolled at Shrivenham American University in England where the second two-month term opened Oct. 8 with an enrollment of more than 3,000 students.
