75 Years Ago –  Dec. 27, 1945
Lt. Walker entered radio business — Lt. Alexander M. Walker, son of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Walker of Presque Isle, had distinguished himself in his pioneer work in Radar. He volunteered for service in the Air Corps in 1940. Graduated from the Air Corps radio school at Scott Field, III, in June of 1941.

Census — The first census of Houlton taken 125 years ago listed a total population of 117. There were 74 males and 43 females. The largest family was 12 in the household of Joshua Putnam.

75 Years Ago –  Dec. 27, 1945
Ex-service man served the public again — Homer Cyr, who was formerly on the sales force with Maine Public Service, served the public for seven years in the Home Appliance Field. After serving in the Armed Forces during the war, Homer was ready to serve the public again in the name of “Cyr Appliance Co.”

75 Years Ago –  Dec. 20, 1945
Honor guard for MacArthur — Pvt. Howard R. De Grass, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur B. De Grass of Hartland, N.B., and a nephew of Mrs. A. Howard Smith of this city, formerly employed by the A. M. Smith Co., of this city, was chosen as one of three honor guards to Gen. Douglas Mac Arthur.

75 Years Ago –  Dec. 13, 1945
Presque Isle man was chosen to run Nevada Airport — George West, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. West of Presque Isle, left for Las Vegas, Nevada, joining his business associate, John Flynn, in taking over the operation of the Las Vegas Air Field.
