New auto inspector — Maurice Elliot has been appointed Automobile Inspector for this part of the state. Violators of the auto laws will be first given a warning and after that the laws will be enforced to the letter.

 100 Years Ago – June 2, 1921
Forest king tosses car into ditch — Mr. and Mrs. Walter Chase, driving from Easton Sunday evening in their automobile, were attacked by a wild moose. The animal came out of the woods just as Mr. and Mrs. Chase made the turn at Murray Foster farm.

Scholarship at the University of Maine — David Francis Akeley of Presque Isle was among 70 students at the University of Maine who received scholarships and prizes at the annual Scholarship Recognition Day exercises in Memorial Gymnasium.

Elected — W.S. Lewin of Houlton who has been very active in the affairs of the Foresters in the State attended the biennial meeting in Bangor last week and was elected councilor, and a supreme representative, while Mrs. Lewin was elected conductor.

75 Years Ago –  May 23, 1946
Local man purchased Belfast Studio — Rodney Benjamin of Presque Isle purchased the photo studio known as the Tuttle Studio in Belfast. He moved to that city with his family to take up his new work. He resigned as assistant photographer at the Brown Studio in this city.

Presque Isle area From our Files – Week of May 17, 2021

75 Years Ago –   May 16, 1946
Weaver named mutual agent — Dana Weaver was appointed life underwriter for New England Life Ins. Co. of Boston and located in the McGlauflin Block on Main Street in the office of Lloyd Greenlaw. He graduated from Presque Isle High School, class of 1938, where he was appointed in public speaking and athletics.

100 Years Ago – May  18, 1921
Ballasting on B & A Railroad — Mr. T.L. Eyre of Philadelphia has taken the contract for the ballasting the line of the B & A Railroad. Work has already begun in Hudson and also in Houlton and will continue until the job is completed. Mr C.M. Johnston is the construction manager, supervising the work, while Mr. Blair of the same company will be in charge.
