Soil Conservation director — At a meeting of Soil Conservation District supervisors from 17 states held in Chicago on July 24th and 25th, Mr. Dennis Getchell of Limestone was selected to serve on the Board of Directors to represent the Northeastern Region of the United States.

Motor vehicle laws on passing — There are many automobilists who are not yet aware of the new motor vehicle laws which became effective this month. No operator shall pass a moving vehicle from the rear at the top of a hill or on a curve when the view ahead is in any way obscured or while a vehicle is crossing an intersection.

Federal building under repair — Contractor C.E. Savage has been at work doing extensive interior repairs on the Federal Building. The interior is also being painted, papered and the window grills will be changed out also.

75 Years Ago —  Aug. 1, 1946
Local man serving at Nippon capital — With the Eighth Army in Japan, Private Robert MacPherson of Presque Isle was serving with the famous 1st Cavalry Division in the occupation of the Nippon capital. Overseas 1 month, he served with D Troop, 12th Cavalry Regiment, as an ammunition bearer.

DuMond spoke at Field Day — The Aroostook County Farm Bureau announced that C. Chester DuMond, Commissioner of Agriculture of New York, was the principal speaker at the Field Day held at Aroostook Farm, Presque Isle.
