Mapleton man elected to office — In its first postwar meeting, Gamma Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity at the University of Maine elected Clifford Kierstead of Mapleton to the office of president. Cliff was active in all sports while attending Mapleton High School and was prominent in Future Farmers’ affairs.

Repairs underway at bookstore — John Woodard has purchased the stock of the Wood and Pond Book Store. He plans to make extensive repairs on the interior following which he will lay in a fine new stock of goods.

W.R. Edgecomb appointed District Chairman USO — W.R. Edgecomb of the Aroostook Hi-Test Fertilizer Co. of Presque Isle was appointed district chairman for the Presque Isle District which included twenty-five communities in the surrounding areas, announced George W. Putnam, Aroostook County USO chairman.

Refresh on roof — The Collins building on Main Street, just south of the Post Office, has been reshingled this past week.
100 Years Ago – Oct. 13, 1921
Good minstrel show — Guy Bros. Minstrel Show, the old reliable entertainers, gave one of their best performances at the Temple Theater Monday night. The theater was packed despite the stormy weather. The band and orchestra were the best they’ve heard in years.

Abundant harvest — Potato digging in Washburn was drawing to a close and the crop in that vicinity was a large one, yielding 150 barrels per acre.

Bessie Fulton elected Legion Auxiliary head — Mrs. Maurice White was hostess to the past presidents’ parley of the American Legion Auxiliary at a picnic supper at her home.

Ex-Marine captain re-enlisted as master sergeant — Astle Ryder, 32, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Ryder of Presque Isle, re-enlisted in the Marine Corps in Portland for a four-year hitch with the rating of master sergeant.
100 Years Ago -Oct. 6, 1921
New location — Geo E. Robinson has moved into the Dr. Thomas House. The office of New England Brokerage Co. will be located in the office of the late Dr. Thomas adjoining the house.
