75 Years Ago –   Jan. 30, 1947
Admitted to Bar — Wendell L. Phillips was admitted to the Maine Bar at a session of the Supreme Judicial Court by Justice Nathaniel Tompkins. Mr. Phillips was associated in the practice of law with Carl A. Weick at 150 State St., Presque Isle.

Sidney Cook elected president of athletic group — Sidney Cook was elected president of the newly organized Presque Isle Athletic Association at a meeting of the directors. Other officers named were vice president, Gustave Johnson; secretary, Wilfred Trafton; treasurer, Robert Andrews.

Ending one job to start another — Robt. McLellan, mail carrier on route number one, has resigned his position, and, it is understood, will enter into business with L.J. Sherwood. Mr McLellan has many friends on his route who will be sorry to hear of his resignation.

Edwin Smith elected to head Presque Isle Fish-Game Group  — Officers were elected, drew up bylaws and nominated a board of directors, when more than 50 sportsmen met at the Mooseleuk Club rooms to organize a new Presque Isle fish and game club.

Rollaway Co’s rink — A large crowd was present at the Rollaway Co’s rink last Friday night. In addition to its being the regular band night, the first race of the series, for a medal to be awarded to the winner of two out of three races, was skated.

115 Years Ago – Jan. 9, 1907
Rockabema Lodge – – Rockabema Lodge I. O. O. F. have elected the following officers for the ensuing year: N. G., Chas. A. Lyons; V. G, O. A. Jacobs; secretary, C.B Whitcomb; and treasurer, Geo. H. Wiggin. Mr. C. L. Fox, who has been secretary of the lodge during the last 10 years, was obliged to resign the office this year on account of poor health.

The verdict is in — The county commissioners made known their verdict Saturday in regard to the prayer of the Independent Telephone Company to set poles, string wires and do a general telephone business in the town of Caribou.
