Purchased the mill — C.C. Crockett of Stockholm and H.P. Streeter of Waitham, Mass., have purchased the U.D. Willard mill privilege at Caswell and will build a long lumber and lath mill in the spring.

75 Years Ago –  Feb. 20, 1947
MacKinnon Bill to raise pay of teachers — Passage of the MacKinnon bill, supported by the Maine Congress of Parents and Teachers and the Maine Teachers Association during hearings in Augusta, resulted in an increase of about one-third in state school funds received by Presque Isle, but the increase did not entirely meet the cost of higher teacher salaries which followed raising the minimum to $1,500 per year.

The new brick building —  The contract for the building of the First National Bank Mock has been let to Mr. Geo. H. Wilbur of Dark Harbor, who did the brickwork on the new school building on Bowdoin Street.

Sale of farm — The J.D. Kennison farm of Limestone, one of the best farms to be found in that town of good farms, was recently sold to Hopkins Bros. of Fort Fairfield for a valuable consideration.

New bank — The First National Bank of Houlton are making arrangements to build a new brick bank building the coming  season at the site of the  present wooden building . Work will begin as soon as the season opens.

Buying trip to New York — John F. Jerrard starts today, Thursday, for New York City, where he goes to purchase an entire new line of dry and fancy goods for J. A. Clark, restocking his store which is now being remodeled.

75 Years Ago –   Feb. 13, 1947
Air Scouts elected Dale Morris as squadron pilot — Seven boys were registered as Air Scouts and Dale Morris was elected squadron pilot of the newly formed Presque Isle squadron at the first meeting at the American Legion Home.

New manager chosen — Caribou citizens generally are glad to learn that Chas. B. Margesson has been chosen  as manager of the P. of H. opera house. No better selection could have been made, as Mr. Margesson is thoroughly posted on all matters historic and takes a deep interest in the work.

YMCA convention — Aroostook County took the lead at the recent YMCA convention of boys at Waterville, sending a full carload. They were accompanied by Sec. Smith and Pearl Whitney from Houlton.
