Two buildings lost to fire — The buildings formerly owned by Robert Brown but now owned and occupied by George Tims in New Limerick, were burned about 5 o’clock Thursday morning. Nothing was saved but a little wood and a stove. There was no insurance.

Vote to purchase park for fair — At a meeting of the Houlton Park and Trotting Assn. and the Gentlemen’s Driving Club, held at the Exchange last Thursday, it was voted to buy the Good Farm on the Bangor Road for a park provided funds could be raised to meet the expense of buying the farm and building suitable buildings.

New machine for the mill — S. W. Collins & Sons, who have leased the Stevensville saw mill for a year, started up Monday, sawing long lumber and laths. They have added a new clapboard machine and have put the mill in first-class condition, expecting to cut 5 million feet of lumber this season.

New print shop owner — Mr. G. B. Morgridge of Island Falls has purchased the job printing business of Geo. H. Don Bain of Island Falls.

Returned from automobile show — C.F. Millar and Jerry Smith, manager and president, respectively, of the Aroostook Motor Carriage Co., incorporated, returned Monday from Portland where they had been in attendance at the automobile show.

Robert L. Symonds associated with R.W. Wight & Son — Robert L. Symonds of Lisbon joined the staff of R.W. Wight & Son, funeral directors, Roland W. Wight announced. Mr. Symonds graduated with honors in 1945 from the New England Institute of Anatomy and Embalming, Boston, and formerly was associated with the R. and E.F. Gleason Co. of Dorchester, Massachusetts, and Dillingham & Son, Auburn.

Industrial Accident Commission chairman appointed — The appointment of Granville C. Gray as chairman of Maine’s industrial accident commission was confirmed by the governor’s executive council.

Races underway — The relay races at the Kink last week were very interesting. Carpenter won against his four opponents, and in the hurdle races Thomas Golden took first prize and George Cyr second.
