Fire Alarm — An alarm from Box 68 on Tuesday afternoon called the firemen to the old C.P.R. depot where a fire had obtained quite a start in a large house used for storing ashes, which is controlled by Mr. Jeff Powers.

Going to Guam — Lieutenant Commander Helen Boyle, daughter of Mrs. Ann Boyle of Presque Isle, had been assigned to overseas duty in the Pacific to take up her assignment in Guam following a 30-day leave.

Sold business — Dr. Mitchell, formerly of Island Falls, has sold his practice and real estate to Dr. W.L. Hunt of Bangor, and will move to Houlton and continue the practice of medicine. We welcome him to our town, and his many friends predict for him a successful professional career.

Received a new appointment — D.E. Johnson has received his appointment as rural mail carrier on route No. 1, taking the place made vacant by the resignation of Robt. McLellan. Mr. Johnson begins his duties on April 15.

75 Years Ago –   March 27, 1947
Double winner — Captain Freddy Adams of the Presque Isle Wildcats was voted the most valuable player of the Aroostook League current season by the coaches and referees. He was also named to both the All-Aroostook League team named by the coaches-referees combination and The Star-Herald.

Bangor and Aroostook Railroad — Conductor Charles H. Potter of the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad completed Monday 28 years of railroading in Maine, having started as a brakeman on the Maine Central March 23, 1879, when he had a run between Bath and Lewision.
