Four Presque Isle insurance agents in “Round Table” — Four Presque Isle life insurance agents were among the 36 in Maine who qualified for membership in the Maine Quarter Million Dollar Round Table, according to an announcement by Heinz B. Koenig, chairman of the membership committee.

New grocery store in town — Daniel Webster, one of Houlton’s respected residents, has opened a grocery store in the building formerly occupied by I.H. Davis as a mill office, on the corner of North and Riverside streets.

New space for upholstering — H.H. Whitney, dealer in furniture, has rented the office building adjoining his store and will use it for an upholstering and picture framing department.

Easton, Ashland speakers won in league contest — Ashland High school won the team prize in the Aroostook Central League speaking contest at Easton, while Irene Fuller of Easton High School won individual honors.

Northern Driving Club sets goal at 500 members — A campaign for membership in the Northern Aroostook Driving Club got underway throughout Aroostook County with a goal of 500 members. This newly organized driving club originated in December 1946.

Horses have arrived — A carload of horses just arrived on April 22 at C.H. Berry’s Sale Stable on Bangor Street. There are some fine matched pairs weighing from 2,800 to 3,000 pounds, and also a few driving horses, making in all 30 head for sale.

Sold business — Wm. Barker, who has conducted the Caribou Steam Laundry in this place for a number of years, has sold the business to M.L. Hutchinson of Machais, who will probably take possession the latter part of the month.

To benefit Rotary scholarship fund — As a memorial to Paul P. Harris, the founder of Rotary who passed away in January, more than 6,000 Rotary Clubs throughout the world raised a $2 million fund for international student fellowships and for other activities to advance international understanding, goodwill and peace.

Returned with horses — Harry W. Stevens of the firm of L.W. Stevens & Son returned yesterday noon with one of the best, if not the best, car-load of horses ever shipped to Maine, consisting of fancy matched pairs and 10 brood mares.
