John Whitten named Aroostook 4-H Club agent — John Whitten, a graduate of the University of Maine, accepted the job of 4-H Club Agent for Aroostook County and began work July 1, working throughout The County. Mr. Whitten was well known in Aroostook.

115 Years Ago – July 18, 1907
Exciting runaway — There was an exciting runaway on High and Sweden streets about 3 o’clock Friday. A pair of spirited gray horses, owned and driven by Emery Knowlton, became badly frightened in some way, and started down High Street at a 2.40 clip, turning into Sweden Street and continuing on up the street to the residence of A.V. Goud, where they were stopped, after partly freeing themselves from the heavy jigger.

Crowded house – The minstrel benefit for the Baseball Association had a crowded house last night, and the entertainment reflects great credit upon every member, who have developed wonderfully under the supervision of Director S.H. Hanson, who has had many things to contend with, and many difficulties to overcome.

Annual band excursion — The annual band excursion takes place on July 27 to St. Andrews, as usual, and at the same time the local lodge N.K.O.P. will have their annual field day and outing at the same place, all tickets are good on the Monday following.

Contract to build library — Astle and Page have the contract to build the Carnegie Library at Presque Isle to be built from plans furnished by S. C. Page. The building will be brick. They begin work on Wednesday.

Mars Hill student won B.U. award — Word was received of a special award and scholarship at Boston University to Wilson Dyer, son of Mrs. Bessie Dyer, Boynton Street, Mars Hill. Mr. Dyer was in Boston for a personal interview with university officials.

75 Years Ago – July 3, 1947
Robertson received a degree — Keith H. Robertson, son of Mrs. Mildred Roberston, received his A.B. degree from Dartmouth College, having completed the degree requirements in three and one-half years. During the war, he was in the U.S. Navy for two years.

115 Years Ago – July 10, 1907
Houlton takes the lead — Caribou and Houlton met at Caribou on Monday afternoon, and up to the fifth inning the score was 3 to 0 in favor of Caribou, and then the fatal inning came and Houlton made six runs.

Traveling to buy potatoes — Percy L. Logan left last week for New Jersey, where he will engage in buying potatoes for a couple of months and return to Caribou when the shipping season opens here. Mrs. Logan and children will remain in Houlton during Mr. Logan’s absence.
