Diamond will be dedicated to Bob Ruth — The Houlton Town Council voted at a meeting Monday evening to name the new baseball field at Community Park in honor of Robert M. Ruth, former star athlete at Houlton High School, who was killed in action in France, July 29, 1944.

Rotary launched a 7-point program — Development of a long-range plan for continual improvement of the community playground and swimming pool was the “number one” item on the program recommended to the Presque Isle Rotary Club by the special planning committee named to summarize reports for the various committees as submitted to the club assembly July 16.

Houlton soldier serving on Kyushu Island, Japan – With the Eighth Army in Kokura, Japan, Eldaige J. St. Peter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie St. Peter of Houlton, is serving with the Troop Information and Education Section of the 24th Infantry Division in Japan.

New machinery  — M.L. Hutchinson & Co., proprietors of the Caribou Steam Laundry, have been placing considerable new machinery in their laundry on Main Street, including a domestic pollsher, collar turner, extractor, boiler, in fact, refitting the plant throughout with new machinery.

Houlton edges St. Stephen, 4-3 – In a pitching duel here today Ralph Peabody, on the mound for Houlton, won his game, 4-3 over Harold Moffatt, St. Stephen. Peabody was touched for eight hits and had 10 strikeouts, while Moffatt pitched a nine-hit ball.

Returned from trip — J. P. Donworth, accompanied by Electrical Engineer C. F. Millar, returned Friday from a trip to Green River, Edmundston and other places, being met by capitalists from Boston and the other province, and looking over the prospects for generating electricity from water now going to waste on the Green River.
