I grew up in Houlton. I’ve raised three children here. My wife, Joanne, and I have made Houlton our home. But living in Aroostook County hasn’t been without hardship. There have been times, raising our kids, where I was nervous about finding proper medical care. Maybe they were sick with the flu, had a bad fall on one of our horses or got injured playing sports, but either way, I had to think about how they could get the best care.

Family associations can be great sources of material for genealogists. They range from informal reunions, where the descendants of a particular couple meet for a picnic once a year, to full-fledged organizations with dues and membership cards and newsletters.
It occurs to me that I haven’t contributed a column to the newspaper in a while. That doesn’t mean I haven’t written things. I have, but thought better of it; mostly items criticizing the latest Trumpian gaffe. The echo chamber can be deafening at times.
