Summer has begun and the mosquitoes and black flies are feasting on everyone. Thanks to COVID-19 issues there are problems with the supply of blood and blood products. And for the first time this year, the flyswatter has assumed its position as an office staff member.

Special Education director responds to violations

I am writing in response to a recent article published in the Bangor Daily News on June 10 (and in the June 16 edition of the Houlton Pioneer Times) stating that the Hodgdon School District (SAD 70) violated state regulations by improperly changing student special education programs.

Presque Isle’s own steamboat

Did you know Presque Isle had a steamboat in the 1870s?  Sidney Cook, who left this area to seek his fame and fortune as a young man, returned a rich man having brought up the treasures of the clipper ship, the SS Golden Gate, which sunk off the coast of California on July 27, 1862.

Finding hope in a metaphor

It was apparent that the self-contained camper had been abandoned long ago. Each time I went out exploring (riding around secondary roads in the area), I noticed the deserted vessel sitting serenely in its exclusive spot.
