Conservation Corner: A salute to principal Nancy Wright

Last weekend the staff at Wellington School in Monticello held a retirement dinner honoring the school’s teacher and principal, Nancy Wright. As I turned into the driveway to the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum where the dinner was being held, I noticed the welcome sign read, “It’s all about you Nancy Wright.” This Conservation Corner continues that theme.

Cup O’ Joe: Schools face budget crunch

Many school districts around the state have experienced difficulties in putting together a budget for the next school year, and local districts are no exception.
School officials in Danforth, SAD 29, SAD 70 and the newly formed RSU 50 (Southern Aroostook and Katahdin) have been diligently working to put together spending packages for the 2011-12 school year and almost every district is seeing an increase in the amount of local tax dollars that are needed in order to get funding from the state.

Cup O’ Joe: Home remodeling hassles are worth it

When it comes to home improvement projects, why is it the list never seems to get shorter no matter how many tasks you complete?
Like many folks, my wife and I came up with a list of all the things we would like to do with our home when we moved in. But somehow that list never seems to get shorter. Each time I knock off one of tasks, two or three more get added.

Cup O’ Joe: Where is Peter Cotton Tail?

For many, Easter Sunday is a time of reflection and celebration as churchgoers observe the resurrection of Jesus. It is also a holiday that has become more secular over the years, with egg hunts and the Easter Bunny.

Public service is not easy

The decision to run for a public office, whether it be for town council, a board of selectmen, or a school board, is surely a difficult one to
make. After all, it’s a thankless job featuring many hours spent in committees and board meetings.
