Family Searcher

Two years ago, I attended the Maine Genealogical Conference in Bangor, and came back all excited and energized. That, for me is the best thing about conferences, the way they perk up my enthusiasm. I saw a very dear friend there, with whom I had lost touch, and she is trying to get a genealogy group started in Greenville. I will keep you posted as I hear more on that!

Cup O’ Joe: Festivals are summer tradition

Town celebrations are an opportunity to commemorate special moments from the past, enjoy the present and look to the future as generations typically come together in one meeting place. Cup O’ Joe: Black flies are nuisance

Black flies. They are a fairly common, and yet annoying pest here in northern Maine that we all struggle to fend off.
So far this summer, the black flies seem to be extra thick and aggressive. And no matter how much bug spray is applied, the tiny bloodsuckers always seem to find a way through my defenses on their way to a tasty treat.

Cup O’ Joe: A black hole basement

Why is it basements seem to be a giant black hole? If you have ever lost or misplaced an item, chances are it’s probably hiding in some nook or cranny in your cellar. And it’s mocking you every time your eyes glance over the hiding spot it’s found and yet goes unnoticed.
At least that’s my experience. A trip into my basement can sometimes be like a trip into Mardens. You never know what you’re going to find.
