It was another memorable week of basketball games at the Bangor Auditorium as our local teams put on strong showings in their respective regions. Seven of the 12 teams in The Houlton Pioneer Times’ coverage area earned an opportunity to play on the floor of the Auditorium this year.

Greetings! Please let me introduce myself. I have lived in Caribou and the Caribou area for all of my life. I was born in Presque Isle on Oct. 25, 1955 and I was an only child until the age of 13. I graduated from Caribou High School in 1974, attended Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, and studied psychology at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and Augusta.
Lately, I have been working with other genealogists a great deal more than usual. I have worked with my sisters for years, and love that collaboration. It is so exciting to work with someone else and feel your energy increase; I can almost hear my brain snap to life. It was a whirlwind weekend in our household, thanks to a busy day in Bangor covering the regional cheering competitions.
The Houlton cheering squad put in another solid performance at the Bangor Auditorium. Featuring one of the largest squads in their division, the Shiretowners earned the right to defend their 2011 state crown with a high-energy performance featuring multiple tumblers and tosses into the air. Houlton finished fifth out of 12 squads with only the top six teams advancing to the state competition.
Working at the newspaper, every day brings something new and exciting. Some days it’s a story that piques my curiosity. Other days it’s a phone call from someone that just wants to ask a few questions.
