Uncle Sumner

Sumner Whitney was born in Phillips, Maine, on March 5, 1809. He married Diana Bradstreet and together they had eight children, the first two born in New Brunswick and the third in Bridgewater. Only four of the eight lived to adulthood.  Around 1846, Sumner moved to Presque Isle.

Presque Isle has always had, since its early inception, some form of medical care. whether it be through visiting doctors or in private homes.  By the late 1800s, Presque Isle had two private hospitals.

Good-faith investments in bad-faith businesses

I recognize a pattern in Presque Isle; tell me if this sounds familiar: A business person makes an investment in a distressed asset; our community rallies in cautious support; predictable obstacles emerge; the investor vanishes; citizens are left holding the bag. Fingers are pointed, but as time passes, we forget. Or worse, we grow cynical.

City receives AARP Age-Friendly nod

The City of Presque Isle recently received recognition from the American Association of Retired Persons for being a member in good standing of the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities having successfully completed a cycle of improvement.
