What a nice past few weeks we had, if you can’t wait for spring. Everyone was outside just to be outside including all the animals. It was just enough warmer weather so that you might forget when the cold returns and those pets might get left out for too long.
The Presque Isle Community Center Project fund-raising effort is off and running. To date we have received over $300,000 in donations. A long way from our $3.5-million goal, but a great start and a little closer to this much-needed facility that will add tremendous value to our citizens and our community.
Unemployment insurance is critical to those who lost their jobs through no fault of their own and are diligently searching for work but are unable to find it. That is why I recently voted to proceed to debate a bill that would extend federal emergency unemployment compensation benefits.

The New Year is always a good time to look back at the challenges that we have met, and to look forward with hope to those that lie ahead. It continues to be a privilege to represent Maine in the U.S. Senate.
Genealogy has always been a way for me to connect to family, both past and present. I come from a family of 10 children and I loved most everything about that. (Okay, I admit there were rare moments when I wished to be an only child.)

Maine’s veterans deserve not just words of gratitude but real action that shows how much we value their service. Access to affordable health care is the least we can do for those who have defended our country.
