LDS have provided gateway to research

Over my years of family research, I have come to respect and admire the genealogical work of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS), which they offer up to the world quite freely, if not entirely free. Winter storms: The ‘hidden’ hazards

I have noticed, in my years as a meteorologist, that when a winter storm is in the forecast, folks tend to over-focus on how much is expected, while not fully considering the storm’s other hazards, which include possible white-outs, dangerous cold, and getting stuck without a winter survival kit!

The Tides, They Are a-Changin’

Well, since we played around with a musical theme in the title, let’s continue with “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay”. The thing is, if you *were* sitting on a dock in Eastport, assuming it was an old-fashioned wooden one on pilings, you’d see a 19-foot variation between high and low tide.

Susan Collins remained divided on raising the minimum wage and providing universal health care during Monday night’s debate in Presque Isle.

Cup O’ Joe: Time for tricks and treats

Halloween, or All Hallow’s Eve, is a time of both celebration and superstition. For children (and some adults too), it is a time to dress up in costume and canvas the neighborhood, knocking on doors and soliciting candy.

Does a storm draw nigh? Watch the sky!

Have you ever noticed that in advance of a winter storm, an otherwise sunny day may feature a sky criss-crossed with lines? Well these lines are actually ice crystals from jet exhaust, called contrails (short for condensation trails).

Does a storm draw nigh? Watch the sky!

Have you ever noticed that in advance of a winter storm, an otherwise sunny day may feature a sky criss-crossed with lines? Well these lines are actually ice crystals from jet exhaust, called contrails (short for condensation trails). But the question is, why are they sometimes really, really short, while other times they are super long, with many in the sky at once?
