This dog went to heaven

I am thinking back to a time in the woods. This was not exactly hunting, which I never experienced. My brother Leonard and I were in grade school when we were walking in our woods, not far in. We saw tracks, had no idea what had made them and decided to follow. So of course, we were tracking, but what?

A tree hunting trek

We happened to go to Presque Isle this morning and on the way back we traveled what we call “the shortcut” to get back to our house. After the snow from yesterday and then again last night there was likely an inch of snow on the road. I happened to look in the rearview mirror, and the billowing snow behind the car reminded me of a day back in 1978 or 1979, on Thanksgiving weekend.

The County makes good things grow

The South Koreans make much with little space. The County could learn a lot. Potato fields no longer feed spuds like they used to. In the last 40 years the acreage has declined. This is not bad. It is a sign that we are maturing as a farming area.

Spend a moment in gratitude

Carnage, mayhem, and millions dead and maimed. The combatants declared an armistice. By decree this event was assigned to the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. It was hoped that men learned the lesson of such senseless slaughter.

That sweet spud smell

I am sure there are any number of people in the country today who would say they remember this or that and why. Well, let me say there is no difference here. I can be thinking of aliens and UFOs and all of a sudden an aroma or sound will trigger a memory.
