FMSC plans launch day

EASTON, Maine — The Francis Malcolm Science Center invites members of the public to Launch Day, Saturday, April 30, 2016. 

The center will open its doors to demonstrate its new digital projection system recently installed in the planetarium theater. Demonstrations will be given every 30 minutes from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Collins earns statesmanship, children’s advocacy honors

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, recently received two awards honoring her work as a statesman and with children.

The Champions for Children award was presented during the Invest In Kids Advocacy Summit, hosted by Save the Children and Save the Children Action Network (SCAN). Senators Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., Chris Coons, D-Del., and Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., also received the award.

My Dad told me stories about fishing various brooks and streams around Mars Hill when he was a youth growing up in the 1920s. Although he became a devout fly fisherman, early on, angling was as much about food as fun and worms were free, readily available and very effective. Fishing equipment was another matter, a luxury and too expensive for an adolescent from a working class family with several kids.

Winter sports awards presented at WDHS

Washburn District High School held its winter sports awards night March 29, 2016 at the Washburn District High School Gymnasium.

After Athletic Director Ron Ericson welcomed the parents and student/athletes, Mike Hartford presented certificates to members of the JV boys’ basketball team. Receiving certificates were Keenan Jordan, Gary Hewitt, Tyler Jardine, Nicholas Irving, Keith McGraw, Quintin Thompson, Noah White, Carver Pendexter, Zakkary Tracy, Dillon Phillbrook, Jovanni Taveres and manager Owen James.
