Note your sources while they’re still fresh

Do you cite your sources? This simply means writing down where you found a fact. Many beginning genealogists don’t bother with this figuring they will remember. Others think this is only for “professional” genealogists. However, all genealogists should know where their information originated. That’s a basic and extremely important rule.

WHITE — A girl, Victoria Ellen White, born to Alyssa and Travis White of Mars Hill on February 25, 2016.

FOX — A boy, Karter Nicholas Fox, born to Lacey and Christopher Fox of Fort Fairfield on February 29, 2016.

Camp Invention returns to UMPI

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Camp Invention, the nation’s premier summer enrichment day camp program, supported by the United States Patent and Trademark Office and a product of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, will return this summer to the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

This year’s camp is slated the week of Aug. 1, 2016, and for students entering grades 1-6, it is a weeklong adventure that will turn the summer from ordinary to extraordinary through hands-on problem solving, using science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Local woman earns Native Spirit Award

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Carla Knapp, national services director for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, recently awarded the Native Spirit Award to Whytnie Martin-Sackett, a VISTA volunteer for the local club, led by the Aroostook Band of Micmacs in Presque Isle.

The Native Spirit Award is one of the highest achievements within the BGCA and the most honorable award in Boys and Girls Clubs in Native American country.

Easton students kick butts in a good way

EASTON, Maine — The Aroostook County Action Program’s Healthy Aroostook recently sponsored a Kick Butts Day activity with Easton youth.

The March 16, 2016 event coincided with Kick Butts Day, a national event organized through the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, and included auditing the local store, Country Farms Market, for tobacco advertising geared towards youth.

University Day engages students in peer sharing

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — From “response to intervention” strategies and the Maine State Lottery to antibiotic resistant genes and women redefining culture, students at the University of Maine at Presque Isle will showcase their academic research, scholarly work and community service on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 during University Day.

The theme of this year’s event is Disrupting the Status Quo.

Former PI priest to lead All Saints

 

PORTLAND, Maine — Effective July 1, 2016, Fr. Thomas M. Murphy has been appointed pastor of All Saints Parish (St. Charles Borromeo Church, Brunswick; St. John the Baptist Church, Brunswick; St. Mary Church, Bath; Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Boothbay Harbor; St. Ambrose Church, Richmond; St. Patrick Church, Newcastle; St. Katharine Drexel Church, Harpswell).

He is currently pastor of Holy Spirit Parish (St. Mary Church, Wells; St. Martha Church, Kennebunk; All Saints Church, Ogunquit).

Sanipass presents senior art show

PRESQUE ISLE – The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host an opening reception in the Pullen Gallery for Roldena Sanipass as she presents her senior show on Friday, April 29, from 6-8 p.m.    She will speak about her work at 6:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
