PIHS athletic hall to grow by 5

Five individuals will soon be inducted into the Presque Isle High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Mark White, co-chairman of the hall of fame committee, made the announcement Friday following a vote by committee member held earlier in the week.

Those being inducted at a ceremony slated for Jan. 13, 2017 are Darren Carlisle (Class of 2002), Katie Delong-McQuade (2006), Peter Fields (1973), Eugene Fitzpatrick (1958) and Andy Packard (1970).

This is the seventh induction class into the school’s hall of fame.

Champions crowned in MS track and field

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The middle school track and field season wrapped up June 1 with the Aroostook League championship held at the Gehrig Johnson Athletic Complex.

Easton athletes garner honors at awards night

EASTON, Maine — Easton Junior-Senior High School held its annual athletic awards night recently at the elementary school.

Varsity Club Adviser Leslie Carlow and Athletic Director Steve Shaw served as mistress and master of ceremonies for the event.

Fishing derby attracts 200 youth to Mantle Lake

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Approximately 200 eager young anglers, together with their siblings, parents and grandparents, attended the “Hooked on Fishing, Not Drugs” Fishing Derby sponsored for the 16th consecutive year by the Presque Isle Elks, Lodge 1954.

University honors 23 workers

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine —The University of Maine at Presque Isle lauded several employees for their years of service during the annual employee recognition reception held on May 25, 2016. Twenty-three employees were recognized for their combined 260 years of service to the university.

AAI names new Gauvin Scholars

All committed to County colleges

The Aroostook Aspirations Initiative has announced the 2016 Gauvin Scholars. The nonprofit organization has selected 20 Aroostook County high school seniors to receive a $1,000 scholarship from Aroostook Aspirations Initiative to aid in their first year of college. Each will also receive a $1,000 scholarship matched by their Aroostook County college to go toward their second academic year.
