DOT fixing OxBow bridge

OXBOW, Maine — Workers from Stetson and Watson of Holden will rehabilitate the bridge that carries Oxbow Road over Umcolcus Stream in Oxbow Plantation for the Maine DOT. This work will commence on July 5, 2016 and officials expect the work to continue through September.

Magic show to open reading program

The Walter T. A. Hansen Memorial Library is offering a summer reading program, “Reward for Reading,” for children in grades K-6. Children may check out and read a book or books of their choice and after completing the book, will receive a prize and have their name and the book(s) they have read posted in the library. While children are encouraged to read as many books as possible, only one prize per week will be rewarded.

Delegates represent PIHS at Dirigo State model legislature

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Presque Isle High School’s 2016 Dirigo Boys and Girls State delegates are currently attending the annual program and learning about aspects of government. The program began June 19 and will end June 25, 2016.

CAHS graduates 50th class with 37 members

Graduation night was held at Central Aroostook High School June 10, 2016 and the 37 graduates marched in for the final time as students under the direction of class marshal Conner Mahan. They would end the night as alumni — members of the 50th class to graduate from CAHS, a school which formed in the 1960s and consisting of Aroostook Central Institute and Bridgewater Classical Academy.

Daze coming back to Mapleton

Mapleton Daze is here and organizers have been working hard to create a fun-filled five days. Events kick off tonight, Wednesday, June 22, 2016, with a bike rodeo at 6 p.m. in the Mapleton Elementary School parking lot. Participants should bring their own bicycles. Those attending will learn some bike safety tips and kids can practice their new skills on a course sponsored by the Bike Coalition of Maine and Bike, Board and Ski. The coalition will also give away free helmets.
