Childcare is becoming more and more difficult for families to afford in Maine and around the country. Not only is that a problem for our families, it’s a problem for our economy. Parents shouldn’t be faced with an impossible choice between childcare and their jobs, and that’s why I’ve joined with one of my Republican colleagues on a bill to support working families.

Mondays on Main Street leaves folks wanting more

Summer weather made holding events on regular basis difficult

In its inaugural year Presque Isle managed to pull off only two Mondays on Main Street over the summer due to northern Maine’s typical fickle weather. This past Monday didn’t start off so great with rain showers leaving the possibility of having the final downtown event up in the air. But mother nature gave Presque Isle a break, the rain stopped and folks descended on the Star City’s main drag for food, live music and fun.

SAD 1 passes budget warrants

Third referendum on school spending is Sept. 13, 2016

The meeting was brief. A small audience attended, smallest one yet actually. The SAD 1 school district’s call for more public input fell on deaf ears and in a few short moments Wednesday evening a third budget was agreed upon. One that voters will hopefully pass because according to the marquee outside the high school, class is already back in session.
“This (budget) is way down from what it was when we started,” Superintendent Brian Carpenter said solemnly as he addressed the board.

October event offers resources for families

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Family members, educators and professionals who live and work with autistic individuals will soon have the opportunity to gain valuable resources and greater understanding of the individuals we aim to support thanks to the grassroots efforts of the Aroostook Autism Support Group. The first Aroostook County Autism Conference will take place on Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Maine farms and their produce will be celebrated during the 2016 Crown of Maine Balloon Fest Street Fair, which takes place Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016 on Main Street in Presque Isle, starting at 4 p.m.
Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic, also starting at 4, from Riverside and Blake streets at the northern end to Academy Street at the southern end.
