Clinton worse than Trump

To the editor:

Sen. Susan Collins’ repudiation of Donald Trump may be the spike through the heart of Trump’s electability. This terrifies me, although many see it differently. As questionable as Trump is, I see Hillary Clinton as unquestionably worse and a serious danger to the future of our country.

Electing Clinton would be a mistake

To the editor:

This election like no other in recent history is vital to the survival of the America we have known and loved for so many years. Our borders are being overrun with invaders from all over, posing as refugees and emigrants, who are a threat to safety and health of Americans. We have a president who seems out of touch with reality, trying to disarm his citizens while opening our gates to the very element he should be protecting us from.

Helstrom is a great barber

To the editor:

When I got my first haircut, Vincent Barresi put a cushioned board across the arms of one of those green chairs that Dwight Helstrom now has, and sat me up there for his tonsorial attention. That must have been shortly after Barresi opened his shop next to the Northeastland Hotel in Presque Isle in 1932 – when I was about 3 years old – and I never forgot it.

Poliquin no friend of environment

To the editor:

Congressman Bruce Poliquin is behind the times on climate change. Instead of endorsing the actions that must be taken in order to preserve our world for future generations, Poliquin has consistently voted against vital green energy investment and environmental protection regulation.

Networking is one of the joys of doing genealogy. Sharing your passion with someone whose eyes don’t glaze over when you speak of brick walls or new resources is a special joy and consider yourself fortunate if you have someone who will trek along with you to cemeteries or libraries or just listen.

Relive the precious moments of your life

Northern Yams

There is a photo of me when I was just a little girl; circa 1960 or so. Every once in a while, I go over the photo and the memories entwined. It was taken in my aunt’s kitchen and the background alone speaks volumes as to the era. There is an old stand mixer on the countertop behind me, as well as an electric radio, and a very sassy pair of curtains at the window over the sink. The cabinet and sink hardware is shiny and simple; plain and symbolic of the quieter, less stressful days of my youth.
