Volunteers critical to shelter success

To the editor:

If you live in the St. John Valley, you have probably heard of Paws Animal Welfare Society, Inc. (PAWS). Many of you have seen our shelter, Valley Cat Haven, from the Frenchville Rd. or visited us.

Our shelter is small but it has a big impact in our communities, in terms of the cats who need help, the people who find homeless cats and do not know what to do to help them and the people who adopt our cats and gain a loving member of their families.

What is their spark?

Most of us at one time or another have paused to ask ourselves if we are on the right road. Are we spending our time in meaningful ways which allow us to contribute with a passion and purpose? If our answer is no, there can be a feeling of regret for having spent far too long running in the wrong direction.

For those who have chosen to live authentically and spend their time meaningfully, there is a sense of thriving, wholeness, and happiness that is almost palpable.

TAMC offers flu shots

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Officials at The Aroostook Medical Center plan six upcoming free seasonal flu shot clinics in central Aroostook County to get as many community members vaccinated as possible. The health care provider will offer three traditional walk-in clinics, including one for pediatric patients, and three of its popular drive-up clinics.

New this year, those 65 and older will be able to get a free high dose flu shot.

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The United Way of Aroostook will host the first Book It for Reading Kids’ Fun Run and 5K on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016 at Mantle Lake Park in Presque Isle.

The event aims to help kids understand the importance of literacy.
