‘Power’ aids local food pantries

     AROOSTOOK COUNTY, Maine — Power of Prevention, a program of Cary Medical Center, has assisted 11 food pantries in northern Aroostook County with self-assessments aimed at identifying their needs and strengths. This has led to over $10,000 in funding for the northern Aroostook County pantries from GSFB, along with an upcoming $2,500 from POP.

‘Brian’s Ride’ coffers grow $6K

The Jefferson Cary Cancer Center has received a donation in the amount of $6,000 for Brian’s Ride, a fund designed to assist cancer patients who are experiencing financial challenges with their cancer journey.

Brian’s Ride was established in 2015 in memory of Brian Caldwell, who died from cancer. His family watched Brian struggle with the high costs associated with his treatment, including travel to specialists, medicines and routine costs of living. His sister Pamela, along with the Caldwell family and friends, decided to create a fund to help individuals with cancer who faced similar challenges.

Group makes Marathon a win-win

 

Wrap-up meeting to gather feedback is tomorrow night

CARIBOU, Maine  — The Caribou Marathon, Half Marathon, Handcycle Races, Relay Races and Kids Marathon took place recently bringing commerce and participants from all over the country to Aroostook County.

What an event it was as 450 athletes from all over the country and Canada signed up to run the tough course and we’ve heard nothing but positive feedback. The runners, and walkers, are raving about the community involvement, the number of spectators along the course; the businesses, especially hotels and restaurants, saw a boost in business over the race weekend, and everyone is talking about what a positive thing it is for Aroostook County.
