Rec soccer wrap-up

CARIBOU, Maine — Recent soccer summaries from the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department youth’s soccer leagues are as follows:

World League (Grades 5 and 6)

   Barcelona vs. Real Madrid — On Sept. 15, Alexis Gustin and Abbie McNeal played well in the midfield for Real Madrid with good defense and distributing the ball to the front line. Zach Judd was excellent at sweeper and Caleb Espling had another fine outing in goal.

Maine 2013 potato production down slightly

    CONCORD, N.H. — Maine fall potato final production for 2013 is 15.7 million hundred weight (cwt), down slightly from the 2012 crop, according to Gary Keough, state statistician of USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, New England Field Office. Aroostook County Grand Jury

    The Aroostook County grand jury completed its fifth session of 2014 on Sept. 5 and handed down 34 indictments against 29 individuals without any “no bills.”    Those indicted include:    Nathan D. Maine potatoes a big draw at The Big E

    WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — There’s nothing quite like a baked Maine potato, and visitors of The Big E should know; they buy enough of them.
Officials with the Maine Potato Board recently attended the largest fair in the Northeast overseeing the baked potato booth in the Maine Building, which is part of the Avenue of States.

    CARIBOU, Maine — The Cardinal Health Foundation recently announced the recipients of their Effectiveness, Efficiency and Excellence in Healthcare or E3 grant. One of the 38 recipients of the year’s grant is the Caribou-based Jefferson Cary Foundation.

Candidate forums scheduled in Van Buren, Houlton

In mid-October, the Aroostook County Municipal Association will be hosting two events designed to provide municipal officials an opportunity to meet the candidates for both the Maine House of Representatives and Maine Senate. The particular focus of these candidate forums will be the nature of the state government-local government relationship and various other issues.
