Sen. Collins stops home for campaign visit

CARIBOU, Maine — U.S. Sen. Susan Collins made a stop in Caribou on Oct. 3, as the homegrown politician continued along her campaign trail. Her vibrant and patriotic red, white and blue campaign bus pulled into the S.W. Collins parking lot around 11:30 Friday morning to visit with her constituents — many of whom were close friends and family — at the location where the Collins family has run their business for five generations.

Pink Aroostook provides support for breast cancer patients in Aroostook County

Pink Aroostook, a county-wide breast health program designed for support, advocacy, education and awareness of breast health issues in northern Maine, has been sustained over the past three years through the generous donations and fund-raising efforts of numerous individuals, corporations and groups from throughout Aroostook. The program is currently funded, in part, by a grant from the Maine Cancer Foundation with additional funding from the Jefferson Cary Foundation and the Cary Medical Center Ladies’ Auxiliary.

Cary Rehab offers comprehensive care for cancer patients

   The Department of Rehabilitation Services at Cary Medical Center now provides the most comprehensive rehabilitation program for cancer patients in northern Maine. The only Oncology Rehab service in Aroostook County, the program provides for Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy to support cancer patients facing the challenges of their diagnosis, before, during and after treatment. In addition the program also has the only Cancer Exercise Specialists in Maine. According to Leslie Anderson, manger of Rehabilitation and Imaging Services at Cary Medical Center the Rehab Oncology Program is part of a new and dynamic ‘team’ approach to cancer care.

Aroostook Cancer Care undergoing expansion, redesign to improve patient experience

    TAMC’s Aroostook Cancer Care provides the most comprehensive cancer treatment north of Bangor. To ensure that this level of service continues and that the advances of tomorrow are available to residents of Aroostook County in the future, TAMC is making a substantial investment in both facilities and equipment.
Efforts are underway to replace an aging radiation therapy linear accelerator, improve and expand treatment areas, and create a more home-like or private surrounding to accommodate medical and family needs. TAMC is embarking on a project to co-locate and modernize the radiation department and the existing medical oncology/hematology practice within the Aroostook Cancer Care Center.
