Alzheimer’s support group benefits caregivers and health workers

Cary Medical Center began an Alzheimer’s caregiver support group in 2011, thanks to the initial support of a grant from the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. The hospital partnered with the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging (AAAA) to develop the program.

Rail-car business eyeing commerce center discussed during LDA meeting

LIMESTONE, Maine — The Loring Development Authority held their regular board of trustees meeting on Oct. 15, 2014 to discuss a number of changes and updates to the board.
The meeting began with the announcement of a new board member, Dana Saucier, of Wallagrass. Saucier attended his first official meeting on Wednesday, as he replaced longtime board member and former board secretary David King of Limestone.

Municipal boilers burning through savings guarantee

    CARIBOU, Maine — The international company Trane was hired to perform energy savings improvements in the city’s municipal buildings in 2012 including the installation of four new pellet boilers “for a guaranteed year-one savings of $77,274” according to the city council minutes from June 27.

Shorty earns Rookie Award with Masons

HOULTON, Maine — Luke Shorty of Limestone Lodge No. 214 was honored by Grand Master David A. Walker for completing the extensive requirements for the Maine Master Mason Rookie Award.
Shorty has been a Mason a year and in that time has completed five required and six optional requirements. These are focused commitments to engage new members and to get them involved in their respective lodges.

Proposed city budget just over $9 million

    CARIBOU, Maine — None of the councilors want to see a mil increase this year — but some are more willing to fight to hold the line than others.
The overall budget for 2015, as presented to the councilors over the past two weeks, totals $9,079,797 — an increase of $382,658 from last year.
A public hearing for citizens to weigh in on the proposed budget is slated for Monday, Nov. 10 in the city council chambers, but the councilors took a moment during Monday night’s meeting to outline their views.

Citizen complaints suspend law enforcement training at Grimes Road shooting range

All law enforcement training conducted at the Grimes Road shooting range has been suspended, and the city council indicated that the suspension will remain until it’s been determined that the range meets the National Rifle Association (NRA) guidelines; council also approved investigation into training alternatives that include sending Caribou Police Officers to privately owned gun ranges for their annual training.
