County duck bonanza

MAINELY OUTDOORS

    The small five-acre, reed-lined pond couldn’t really be classified as remote since it’s situated only half a mile from a paved road. Our trio of camo-clad hunters parked our pickup alongside a rutted field road and wrestled a 16-foot canoe from the roof rack. While other Aroostook sportsmen concentrated on the first week of deer season, the last week of moose hunting or grouse gunning, we hoped for a fast and furious duck hunt.

Anderson-Sleeper wedding announced

Emily Faith Anderson and Jared David Sleeper were united in marriage on July 12, 2014. The ceremony was performed by Fr. Jean-Paul Labrie.

Superior Court News

    CARIBOU — The following cases were heard at the Aroostook County Superior Court during the month of August.    Luis Antonio Alduende-Villa, 39, Fort Kent: probation violation, 250 days in jail, probation partially revoked and probation continued.    Travarn Bell, 19, New York, N.Y.: assault, filed on $300 costs.

Glasscock — A boy, Luke Edward Lee Glasscock, born Aug. 20, 2014, to Celeste Johnson and Dusty Glasscock. Maternal grandparents are Alanna McHenan of Washburn and Lance Johnson of Mapleton. Paternal grandparents are Mike and Zsa Zsa Simard of Woodland.

Purple Pinkie Project raises funds for polio eradication

The University of Maine at Presque Isle and the Presque Isle Rotary Club joined forces to host their third annual World Polio Day and Purple Pinkie Project celebration, and this year, with the help of the Rotary Clubs in Caribou, Fort Fairfield, Limestone and Washburn, the celebration spread throughout central Aroostook County.
